Shimoji district and Shimojishima are different places. Shimoji district lies in southwestern Miyakojima and includes the area around Yonaha Maehama and the route towards Kurima; it is not the island with Shimojishima Airport.
Rental-car pickup and return points differ by company. Match the airport names on your flight ticket and rental booking, and leave time between returning the car and check-in for early departures.
The airport is in central Miyakojima, southeast of central Hirara. Accommodation in Ueno, Shimoji district, Gusukube and other areas on Miyakojima itself can be reached without crossing a bridge.
Choose the route according to whether you will go straight to your accommodation or stop in town. On the timetable for your travel day, look for a bus serving the stop nearest your accommodation.
The airport is on Shimojishima beside Irabu. To reach central Hirara or accommodation on Miyakojima itself, travel through Irabu and across Irabu Bridge.
Travel requirements differ between staying on Irabu–Shimojishima and staying in southern or eastern Miyakojima. Choose an airport bus whose route serves a stop near your accommodation and whose timetable matches your flight.
Give the company your dates, driver information, party size and luggage volume when checking availability. Book child seats and any other equipment with the car.
Pickup and return locations differ by company, and you may need transport to an office. Give the company your airport and flight number, and confirm the meeting point, shuttle availability and opening hours.
Follow the rental agreement for refuelling requirements and your accommodation's guidance for parking availability, use and charges. Use designated parking and do not park on roads or outside facilities without permission.
Leave time for refuelling, return, transport to the airport and the airline's check-in requirements; do not add too many distant stops. For an early flight, check when booking whether returning after the office opens leaves enough time.
Services to and from Miyako Airport differ from those for Shimojishima Airport. Check both directions on your travel date, allow walking time from the stop and make the visit fit the return departure.
Some operators do not explicitly state whether ordinary scheduled services require reservations. Contact your chosen company for group travel or special requirements.

Provide the date and time, airport or pickup point, destination address, party size and luggage volume. For a return journey, give the return pickup point and time together.
For remote beaches, morning airport trips and journeys home after dinner, arrange dispatch in advance instead of assuming a car will be waiting. For sightseeing, explain the route and whether waiting is needed, and ask about pricing terms.
