Purpose of This Site

Okinawa Islands Ferry Guide is a portal that consolidates ferry information for traveling from mainland Okinawa to the remote islands. Travelers can check schedules, fares, booking methods, port access, and on-island amenities in one place. The goal is to bring together information that is otherwise spread across the websites of different ferry operators and local governments, and to make it easy to compare islands by trip type — reducing the time it takes to plan a trip.

Coverage

This site covers ferry schedules, fares, booking methods, port access, and on-island amenities for the five islands reachable from Tomari Port in Naha, on Okinawa's main island: - Kerama Islands: Zamami, Tokashiki, Aka - Kume Island and Tonaki Island (Kume Shosen Naha–Tonaki–Kume route) Routes serving the Miyako or Yaeyama Islands (Ishigaki, Iriomote, and others), the Ie Island route departing from Motobu Port, and inter-island village ferries within the Keramas are outside this site's scope.

Editorial Policy & Primary Sources

Schedules, fares, booking methods, and port information for each island are compiled from the official announcements of the ferry operators and the relevant local governments and municipal public enterprise divisions, organized to highlight what travelers need. Primary sources: - Zamami Village (Zamami / Aka village ferries): https://www.vill.zamami.okinawa.jp/sempaku/ - Tokashiki Village (Tokashiki village ferries): https://www.vill.tokashiki.okinawa.jp/soshiki/sitekanri/5/2/1365.html - Kume Shosen (Kume / Tonaki ferries): http://www.kumeline.com/ Each island page displays a 'Last verified' date at the bottom, indicating when the editorial team last cross-checked the information.

Update Policy

Information is reviewed regularly, and updates are applied when fare revisions, major schedule changes, or significant operating alerts (reduced service, dry-dock periods, etc.) are announced. Schedules and operating status can change daily due to weather, vessel maintenance, and peak-season additions. Please always confirm the latest information on each ferry operator's official website and phone counter before boarding.

First-hand Visits & Editorial Setup

This site is operated and edited individually by Yakanbi. All five islands covered (Zamami, Tokashiki, Aka, Kume, and Tonaki) have been personally visited by the operator. Each article is based on first-hand experience of boarding ferries, accessing ports, and traveling within the island — not only on information compiled from official sources. We aim to surface practical observations and the small details that first-time visitors often miss. As an individually operated site, we cannot track every change in real time, but each island page displays a "Last verified" date at the bottom so readers can see when the information was most recently cross-checked.

Advertising & Editorial Independence

To cover operational costs and to keep information current, this site may display advertisements and participate in partner programs including Google AdSense. Advertising and affiliate revenue does not influence the editorial decisions of this site. The selection of islands and routes to cover, as well as the wording of comparisons and explanations, follows a consistent editorial policy regardless of whether ads are displayed.
